These can’t miss Parisian cafes will have you wanting to snuggle up with a good book and a delicious beverage any time of year!

So you’ve finally made it to Paris for your dream vacation.

But… eeek! The weather is less than spectacular. OR, the weather is great but you’re feeling a little jet lagged from your trip… yet the thought of spending your precious Paris time cooped up in your hotel room gives you the heeby jeebys.

We’re here to share a few of our favorite non-typical Parisian cafes. You won’t find cafes Les Deux Magots or Flore on this list, oh no… we’re not going for history here (this time).

We’re going for quality, instead… and the “famous” cafes in Paris are known not only for their history… but also for their overpriced, mediocre food & drink.

Rain or shine, these places boast comfort, coziness, and above all: really great coffee.

Le Pavillon des Canaux

Are you a fan of everything hipster, quirky, and cozy? Are you a fan of putting all three of these things together into an old Parisian house located right on the banks of the Canal Saint Martin? Do you like good coffee, yummy lunches, and even yummier pastries?! Than this cafe is just the thing for you.

Yup, you read that right, this cafe is located in an old Parisian home located right next to the Canal Saint Martin. And yes, we’re talking right next to, as the water is mere feet away from the outdoor patio of this cafe!

The interior of the building is still set up as a house – including a ‘kitchen’,’living rooms’, and even a ‘bathroom’ where you can cozy up inside a bathtub to sip your lattes or munch on some French pastries.

Fun bonus? On the weekends, local businesses set up shop inside the cafe to showcase their goods! This ranges from things like small clothing brands showing off their threads, potters featuring their pottery, and even small yoga studios offering flash classes!

Head here if you want that at home feeling while leaving your home (or hotel!) all the same.

KB Cafe

If you follow our blog, you know that this one has been a favorite of ours for years now! The thing about finding a good cup of coffee in Paris is…once you find one you tend to latch on tight because it can be difficult to find.

This cafe is found in South Pigalle in Paris, a stone’s throw from one of our favorite neighborhoods in Paris: Montmartre. Filled with cute boutiques, artisanal shops, and trendy bars, this cozy cafe fits right in.

This is one of the many coffee shops in Paris that were influenced by our coffee-expert Australian friends! And speaking of Australians, even Russell Crowe approves of KB Cafe…

Between the amazing coffee, the chilled out music, and the friendly staff – we can’t stop revisiting this Pigalle gem.

You Decide

We discovered this one a few weeks ago and we’ve already been back not one, not two, but three times! The coffee is delicious, the interior is warm and inviting, and their chocolate cookies are to die for. The staff is also extremely friendly… which is important to mention, especially for Paris standards.

This cafe can be found in the ritzy 16th arrondissement, which is another reason why we love it! This neighborhood in Paris can come off as a little snobbish, so we really enjoy the fact that small businesses like You Decide are also able to flourish here.

Enjoy a healthy breakfast or lunch here, as well – the food is homemade with an emphasis on organic produce, and very tasty. The cafe is small and can get pretty busy around lunch hours, so be prepared.

Fragments

Fragments is a restaurant/cafe located in the 3rd arrondissement. This neighborhood is also home to Le Marais, the trendy (and Jewish!) quarter of Paris. Why not stop here after eating some of that yummy falafel you get to taste on our Jewish History of Le Marais tour?!

The coffee at Fragments is delicious, the decor is warm, stylish, AND inviting, and an added bonus is a friendly staff, much like the other locations on this list. Whether you come here to enjoy a good book on your own, or to chit chat and relax with friends, we can’t say enough good things about this venue.

Cafe Lomi

Cafe Lomi is a coffee shop and roaster – in fact, you’ll find Lomi coffee beans at various spots throughout Paris!

The main location in Paris’ 18th district is bright and spacious (by Parisian standards). Lomi coffee is available as espresso, cappuccino, filter, and more. The staff know their business quite well and can advise you on what to choose – including which roast of bean to purchase to bring back home with you!

Snacks like cookies, breads, and cakes are available throughout the day. A Yuzu financier to go along with your coffee, anyone? Lunch is also quite popular and served from noon-3pm. The food is healthy, simple, and fresh.

There is a large communal table for laptop work, and its not unusual to see people working for a few hours as they sip their drinks or eat their lunch. And next door to the cafe? The barista school! Yes, you can take classes with Cafe Lomi to learn about beans, roasting, and making that perfect cup.

La Cafeotheque

Like Cafe Lomi, La Cafeotheque is both a cafe and a coffee bean roaster… and offers classes, too. In fact, it was one of the first artisan coffee roasters on the Paris scene!

But let’s get to the cafe. You can read more here (and see the lovely pictures), but suffice it to say that whether you go here for a coffee or a lunch or both, you’ll leave happy.

My tip? Try to get a spot in the ‘Tropical room’!
